One of the world's premier art collections, Smithsonian American Art Museum displays the works of more than 7,000 different artists. Founded in 1829 as a part of the Smithsonian Institution, the museum--the first of its kind--documents artwork from the United States dating from the colonial era to the modern day. You'll find that the complex, within a building itself listed as a National Historic Landmark, serves as a world-class repository of pieces documenting the American experience over the centuries and reflecting the major artistic movements of each era. Of special note is its array of works by African American and Latino artists. Join one of the daily guided tours, during which you can get an introduction to the museum from a docent. Be sure to check the museum's website for information on the many traveling exhibitions, visiting artists, and temporary displays. This is a fantastic art museum, and I’m confused why there are three dollar ($$$) signs next to this museum because admission is free and you don’t need any sort of ticket. There are a ton of different exhibits for all ages and people. The museum is well decorated, staffed, and clean. I didn’t get the opportunity to see the third floor because this place is HUGE, so I’ll be back. I would 100% recommend visiting this museum!

Very nice art museum 😎😎😎 This is a must see if you're in Washington DC. You'll need about 3-4 hours to see everything without rushing through the artwork and masterpieces 🎨 🖼 Very peaceful and quiet atmosphere. The location is close to Capitol Hill and the White House. There's so much to see and I like that everything is very well organized. You have about 4 different floors to cover and admission is free 😎
