National Museum of the American Indian represents the first museum of its kind in America designed as a living display of the lives, history, and archaeology of the native peoples of the Americas. Part of the Smithsonian Institution's series of famous national museums in Washington, D.C., the facility's limestone facade and interior design were created with the help of prominent Native American groups. You can explore the museum's 800,000 objects on display, as well as its library and archives containing more than 120,000 photographs. Wander through the different regions of the Western Hemisphere, including the Amazon, Andes, California, Great Basin, Pacific Northwest, Mesoamerica, and more, and learn about the tribes and traditions. Check the museum's website for information on special events and traditional performances, temporary exhibits, and guided tours. I wish I had more time to spend at this place. My favourite parts were the information on Pocahontas and learning about General Custer and the battle of Little Bighorn in 1876.

Beautiful museum. Nicely laid out. Exhibits were great. Spent a half day here.

What a great museum. The items in the gift shop are fantastic and made by actual tribe members. My mom and I loved the displays and knowledge shared. My 5 year old loved the interactive kids area. I can't stop thinking about the ceiling in the main hall and how beautiful it is. You should most certainly check it out.
