Nestled on the shores of Lake Champlain, Shelburne Farms remains a great place to spend some quality family time in the countryside, petting goats and rabbits, watching cheddar cheese being made, and learning about sustainable living. This nonprofit organization is set on a historic working farm that dates back to 1886, and represents an excellent example of a Gilded Age "ornamental farm." Enjoy more than 16 km (10 mi) of walking trails, take the tour of lush garden followed by afternoon tea and cookies, or ride on an open-air truck-pulled wagon through the historic landscape. Children will love the opportunity to collect eggs or milk cows by hand. Make Shelburne Farms a centerpiece of your Shelburne vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Shelburne road trip app.

  • Weather was a bit chilly for walking but the farm shop was cute and cozy. Nice selection of farm shop goodies jams soup’s fresh breads and local produce.

  • A destination by itself, worth any detour if traveling through Vermont. Beautiful sights and great locally produced products to buy. The bread and cheese are definitely worth trying. You can definitely plan 3-4 hours there if you want to. Great to visit with kids, lots of stroller friendly trails (as long as your stroller is somewhat all terrain).
  • The grounds are beautiful. I walked to the mansion and formal gardens. Surprising how many blooms even though it was the end of September. The Farm Barn was fun to see some animals up close and watch cheese being made. I stopped in the bakery and purchased a seeded baguette and an oatmeal cookie. Yummy!
