Washington Monument State Park is a public recreation area located approximately one mile (1.6 km) southeast of Boonsboro, Maryland. The park preserves the Washington Monument, a 40-foot-tall (12 m) tower honoring George Washington, the first President of the United States. The monument sits along the Appalachian Trail near the summit of South Mountain's Monument Knob. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The park is managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. To plan Middletown vacation without wasting time, ask Inspirock to design an itinerary.

This is the original Washington Monument located at the foot of Boonsboro (MD), bordering on the Washington/Frederick County lines. There is a small but very informative ranger station in the parking area and the AT runs right around the tower. The Tower, as I call it, has great observations of the surrounding landscape and towns. There is a very narrow winding stairwell inside one can use to get to the top. A must visit.
So this is what I consider a Hidden Gem, The View that you have from the top of South Mountain is absolutely breathtaking. From the top of the Monument you can see the entire Valley. This place is beautiful year around and you also get to see the Appalachian Trail
