Stop at Rockefeller Memorial while hiking the Appalachian Trail or driving on Newfound Gap Road, and stand on the same spot where Theodore Roosevelt stood when he dedicated the newly established national park to the people on Labor Day, 1940. Sitting on the state line between North Carolina and Tennessee, the two tiered stone-structure was erected in the memory of Laura Spelman Rockefeller, the wife of John D. Rockefeller whose generous donation helped purchase the land for the park. Amenities include restrooms and ample parking space.
