Passing through a verdant forest of centuries-old hemlocks and red cedars, Trail of the Cedars is an easy loop hike that provides an insider's perspective on Glacier National Park. You'll get to walk along a raised boardwalk on the eastern side of the loop before reaching the highlight of the hike--a footbridge over the lower Avalanche Gorge. Take some time to soak up the views of glacial water cascading through the narrow gorge before heading on towards the lake and the campground. This wheelchair-accessible trail starts and ends on the Going-To-The-Sun Road, which is a very popular trailhead, so parking may be hard to find during the peak season. I think this was the easiest "hike" we took with the prettiest water "cascades." The hike is short and easy. We did the whole loop once then another day walked just to the cascades.

The walk is very easy and the cedars are impressive. If you continue on the Avalance Lake, you need to add the posted distance for Cedars and Avalance so it's about 7 miles.

This is a great trial for kids as half of the trial is on a raised wooden path. Along the trial, there are info plaques on the different trees and plants of area as well as short poems. The river the trial loops over will be a contrast in either calm or raging monster depending on your time of visit. The back side of the trail loop is on paved ground and is near the camp ground so it is less scenic then the decked side. Good short loop to do if wanting a change from the more serious hikes.

The Trail of the Cedars is a easy essential walk through some amazing nature that can be a fantastic experience and leads to the Avalanche Lake trail. There are grizzly bears in the area so please have bear bells and bear spray that you know how to use. There are clean bathrooms and water to refill your bottles!
