  • You see this glacier from a pull out on the GTTSR. It was a cloudy day and we could see the glacier.

  • This overlook makes it easy to get a good view of Jackson Glacier. It is pretty important to see at least one glacier, even it it is off in the distance, while in Glacier National Park. This did...

  • Heads up- you need a Going-to-the-Sun road pass in order to get to this location. Otherwise, if you go before 6am or after 4pm, you don't need the pass. This was one of the first stops we made when we started our drive. Its maybe 8-10ish miles from St. Mary's visitor center. The sign to look for also says "Gunslinger Pass" as opposed to Jackson Glacier, so be on the look out for that. From the east to west direction, there was a parking lot that we stopped in, got out and looked at the glaciers. It was beautiful, but a lot of trees blocking the view. After a few minutes, we got back in our car and resumed driving, only to spot another parking lot just a little ahead that had an amazing clear view of all the glaciers. We ended up stopping again on our drive from west to east, and this time we were able to see it perfectly. There are some hikes you can take, but they were 4-9 miles long, I believe, so we skipped that. It was a quick stop with breathtaking views. Enjoy the picture of my family at the lookout!
  • The Jackson overlook has a large parking area for people to pull over and get out. As this glacier can be seen from the road, it is worth the stop. For some good photos mid-morning would be the best light to highlight the glacier.
