"She treats her trees like individuals"–a neighboring farmer accuses apple grower and cidermaker Diane Flynt of lavishing too much attention on her apple trees, but high quality fruit and carefully crafted cider are the goals at Foggy Ridge Cider. Before you head to Dugspur, plan trip itinerary details with our user-friendly Dugspur online trip itinerary builder, to make sure you see all that Dugspur has to offer, including Foggy Ridge Cider.
At Foggy Ridge Cider we aim to revive the artisan cidermaking tradition. We harvest ripe apples from our three orchards (paired with other quality Virginia grown apples) and craft small batches of carefully selected cider blends. The cidermaker is intimately involved in all aspects of the orchard and Cider House from grafting and pruning to picking and blending.
Over our past ten years making cider in the Blue Ridge Mountains we have learned a great deal. We have a cider to fit everyone's palette, from our very dry Serious Cider (named after the serious English cider drinkers who prefer a much drier product) to our First Fruit, made from early season apples with a crisp tart flavor and our Stayman Winesap, produced from wonderfully sweet stayman and winesap apples, creating a well balanced fruity cider that pairs well with BBQ and spicy foods. Our Handmade is one of our most popular with a creamy mouth feel and wonderful fruity flavors of citrus and pineapple. We also offer port style dessert ciders that make a nice sweet finish to a meal - Pippin Gold and Pippin Black. We would love for you to try them all.

I am a beer guy myself but have been going to FR for about 10 years now. This is the only cider I drink as I find most are just poorly done. I would say their cider is better than most wines out there. Like most craft breweries and all wineries you should expect to pay a small fee to sample flights of the ciders, which I think for the last 10 years has been about $5. You would need to check the sign above the tasting bar to be sure. I would say if you don't like craft food and the employees talking about the history of the company or the process and labor put into making the cider then you should probably drive past and not stop in. There is a meadery within a mile and several wineries close by as well. I should say that they all charge for their samples and speak at length about their products so some people might view this as a "sales pitch". I should also add this is not a place you just drive by and "stop in". It is off the beaten path and miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Enjoy.

Stopped in to check it out. Was offered a sample. After a lengthy sales pitch. And an offer to join some buy club for there cider. I politely declined and thanked the sales person for her time. To which she said (Well you owe me 5$ for the sample's) I looked around for a sign stating that there was a charge for it. There was none. I gave her the 5 and told her she may want to at the very least post a sign or tell potential customers before hand. Very underhanded way to make a quick buck. Will not go back or recommend it to anyone. Shame on you Foggy Ridge.
