Create an itinerary including Mount Evans
Towering 4,348 m (14,265 ft) above the Great Plains, Mount Evans serves as a symbol of the Denver skyline and the site of the highest paved road in North America. The peak represents one of Colorado's "fourteeners," mountains standing more than 4,267 m (14,000 ft) high. You can hike and drive along its extensive network of trails and roads. As you make your way to the summit, you'll be treated to sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and plains; keep an eye out for the occasional grazing buffalo. Take precautions before you go--the peak's extreme weather at the summit and its height can cause altitude sickness. • Climbed on a bike from Idaho Springs on a perfect day in mid June (shortly after the road opened) with family driving up after spending some time in Idaho Springs. Great experience we all enjoyed...

  • Beautiful hike to Mt. Evans from summit lake - when we got to the top there were a ton of mountain goats. It was a rainy, drizzly day so we didn't get to see the beautiful views from the top but that was ok as we saw the wildlife. Really a magical place.
  • Mount Evans holds a near and dear place to my heart as it was my first 14er that I ever hiked, and with my late uncle at that. The hike itself is not bad for a 14,000 foot peak. It is strenuous but gradual and the views from the top ridge are absolutely breathtaking! If you don't want to hike it, you can drive to the top and just hike a little bit of ways to the summit. Watch for afternoon lightning as it can move up quick here! There's tons of marmots and mountain goats that are very comfortable around people so just keep your distance but enjoy the beauty of nature from one of the most beautiful spots in Colorado!
