  • I have always wanted to get here since seeing one of the shay locomotive in the Baltimore and Ohio Railway museum in Baltimore. I cannot stress that if you enjoy history along with trains ...this is the place! Historic running trains and along with smooth riding up and down the mountain. Packed with beautiful views and tons of railway cars. Worth it! The train engineers are looking out for your safety and will answer all your questions too! Pack water and jackets just in case! Worth it period! The gift shop is an old historic company store and the station is another one. The staff are courteous and the railway workers are superbly polite. Even with the smokey coal dust this is totally worth it!
  • We took the excursion up to Bald Knob with both parents and children as a birthday celebration— our group ranged in age from 60-some years to 4 years old. Everyone had a great time! We learned a lot about the local area and the history of the railroad (and paper!) in West Virginia, enjoyed a prepared sandwich “hobo” lunch, and got to see the whole production in action. The train cars were very clean, well-kept, and every seat offered lots to see. The train meandered along the river before making the climb, switchbacks included, to the mountaintop. The staff was knowledgeable and professional, both on the train and in the museum, theater, and gift shops. Even though we had a rainy and cool July day, the experience was totally wonderful. We’re already looking at the website, considering an autumn or Christmas time trip!
