    Site is unmanned and a little rougher than the others I have visited recently. Admission is free and there are restrooms in the parking area. Beautiful terrain and one can imagine what the original....  more

    this Fort north of Abilene on west lake road is partially restored and nice to wander around. some of the building have been stabilized and restored.

    If you like Texas history this is a pretty cool place. It’s a lot bigger and more spread out than I was expecting. You have to really appreciate the ruins and the story behind them. Yes there are tons of spiders, grasshoppers, etc but it’s out in the country so you should expect that. Just walk around and enjoy the peace and quiet for about 30 minutes and just imagine it as a it were in 1850, a bustling military fort.

    Short and super easy hike around some ruins. The area is clean and well take care of. The ruins are really pretty and well preserved! The trail isn't super well marked, but easy enough to follow!
