If you enjoy a good costume drama, Charlecote Park is probably your cup of tea. You can even on a period maid’s apron and try your hand in its fully operational Victorian kitchen. Home to the Lucy family for more than 800 years, the house is one of England’s best-preserved estates with formal gardens and miles of woodland walks opposite the River Avon. Costumed volunteers lead guided tours through the brewhouse, tack room and great hall. You’re welcome to enjoy a sit-down meal at the on-site restaurant or bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds, where William Shakespeare was once caught poaching. Had a very pleasant afternoon strolling( in my case rolling) around the house and grounds. I am an ambulatory wheel chair user. They are currently working on the house, replacing the heating system...

Lovely house and grounds. As expected of a nation trust property. Very well kept. Unfortunately upon my visit the house was closed for maintenance yet spectacular grounds were open. Parking is ample. If you have small children or bicycles you do have to cross a road from the car park to the grounds so do be careful.

A beautiful place to visit, very friendly and welcoming. It is a wonderful setting too. We visited the house first and although only a small part of it was open we were met by such lovely knowledgeable people it was a pleasure to wander around. There was so much more to see that was under wraps for the time being, so we will have to go again, happily. After the house there are magnificent grounds all around where you can walk amazingly close to the deer who just sit there without fear. There are many places to picnic or sit and watch the world go by. We will definitely return to do more of the grounds and buildings as they open after the new heating system and renovation. Well worth visiting with or without families. The Cafe was OK for light refreshments, cakes and Panini or sandwich style food but was quite noisy and small so could be crowded quite quickly. We took our takeaway coffee and brownies out into the grounds where we found a secluded bench in the lee of a yew hedge and watched the deer in the brisk spring sunshine. What more could we want. Thanks Charlecote Park.
