  • The longest ‘outdoor’ street market in Europe, at 1 kilometre long. The market used to be a lot more diverse. Stall holders were multi-cultural - from native Brits to Pakistani. It was wonderful. Now, one culture seemingly dominates. This has led to a loss in both visual and audible friendly atmosphere. The authentic London ‘barrow-boy criers and joviality has mostly gone, along with it, an endless diversity of goods. The atmosphere has changed, and alas, not for the better.
  • This happened to be my gran's favourite street market and 50 years later I can see why. It reflects the needs of the local community and is the longest street market in London. Always famous for dress fabrics and accessories it has become even more cosmopolitan and global than I remember it in the 70s. It has something for most people, locals and visitors. If you want a true feel of a genuine London market this is the place. Great bus links and bus station close by.
