The project to open a museum was started in 1999 by a group of like minded enthusiasts, who were concerned that with the rapid growth of the town there was nowhere to preserve its history. The museum was opened in 2005 on the site of the Old Stables at the rear of the Rushden Hall.Arrange your visit to Rushden Museum and discover more family-friendly attractions in Rushden using our Rushden trip planner.
The Museum is run by an Executive Committee and Volunteers, who act as stewards during opening hours, assist with cataloguing, exhibitions and general day to day functions. The Museum collection includes objects and photographs that reflect the social history of the town and the Boot & Shoe industry – it being the instigator of the town’s rapid growth in the late 19th century.
The Rushden Research ‘Hearts & Soles’ I.T. kiosk provides archived history at the touch of a button. The museum has also compiled the ‘Shoe Loan Box’ which is a portable box which takes the history out to the community, be it a school or social group.
In the vicinity of Rushden Museum is the Historic Rushden Hall. Guided tours can be arranged for groups by contacting the museum.
Exhibitions are changed ANNUALLY depicting different topics of Rushden’s History.

An interesting hidden little treasure in rushden. A fascinating look back in the story of rushden and its people. Its only a small museum and really only of interest to people living in or connected to the area. Worth popping in to take a look at the great range of exhibits and artifacts as well as the great photos of the past.
