Find yourself surrounded by swaying heather, tall Douglas firs, thick pines, and long stretches of grass dotted with spruce at Allean Forest. This scenic forest is set against the backdrop of a mountain landscape, with the deep blue Loch Tummel running through the valley below. The forest offers a wide variety of terrain and trees, as well as archeological remains. During planting, an 18th-century farmstead was uncovered--remnants of the farming community that existed here long ago. Follow one of the many well-marked trails to view the old farmstead, and see if you can spot squirrels, wildcats, badgers, and some of the many species of birds. Found this walk when staying at tummel valley and decided to drive along one day. Free parking and 2 trails both signposted. We did them both in around 2 hours. Trails easily signposted although...
