National Slate Museum
Inside the disused 19th-century workshops where miners once toiled is National Slate Museum. The museum is part of the National Museum of Wales and sits along the European Route of Industrial Heritage. Inside the workshops, refurbished rooms set up to evoke the quarryman's daily life. Learn the history of slate and the process by which it's mined. The heavy slate was transported between buildings by the water-powered tram still functioning in the courtyard. A visit to National Slate Museum represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Llanberis trip tool to plot your vacation.

Fantastic museum. A nice mix of boards, pictures, interactive history and even an in person demonstration of cutting slate! Staff were very friendly and helpful too. It was free entry, you do have to pay for parking which was £5 at the time of writing. But it was a great day out for dirt cheap price. Highly recommended a visit!

Thought provoking museum with lots of static exhibits and live displays, giving an insight into the Welsh slate industry and the lives of those it employed. The three miners' cottages, large water wheel and workshops were fascinating to see. While there wasn't the same level of signage and information boards as in some other museums, the extent to which the workshops and equipment had been preserved gave a real sense of the working conditions people would have faced. Parking is paid but entry to the museum is free.
