A massive fire in 1937 destroyed Witley Court & Gardens, once one of the largest houses of England. The interior of the house was completely ruined, leaving only a shell of the palatial structure. To contrast the ruins of the mansion, take a walk through the well-maintained gardens. Pause to admire the fountains that still work like they did in the 1800s, and use the audio guide. Visit the small, attached church where Handel once played to see some baroque frescoes. For a break, play in the treehouse and run across the rope bridge at the Wilderness Play Area. • Lovely, well signed walks and spectacular ruined house combined with polite friendly staff make it a place well worth visiting. Don't forget the church tea room which has a good selection of good and drink. They were very helpful and quick serving. It helped that the weather was good but would be a pleasant place to go in any weather. The fountain is set off on the hour, every hour and lasts for about 15 minutes, very impressive.
  • A fantastic and magical place, the garden walk is superb and the court itself is beyond words. Bring a picnic and a blanket and let your imagination run wild! The wooden children's play area is magnificent spacious and enough to keep the most active of children busy. A most magnificent place.
