The mammoth 19th-century neo-Norman Penrhyn Castle (National Trust) offers opulent furnishings inside and a spectacular natural setting outside. In the halls, see a 900 kg (1 ton) slate bed made for Queen Victoria, elaborate carvings, plasterwork, and mock-Norman furniture. The castle also has a large collection of paintings that you could spend hours gazing at. The restored kitchens are a hit with visitors, and the stable block contains two museums: one for industrial railways and another for model railways. Outside the buildings, be sure to explore the surrounding parkland, exotic tree and shrub collection, and enchanting Victorian walled garden. • Great for a few hours. Nice modern "castle". Really a stately home built to look like a castle, around an older castle. It varies which indoor areas are open. We saw downstairs only, which was still interesting. The walled garden and grounds have some interesting and unusual plants dotted around. Well worth a visit
  • The website & leaflet under sell this stunning castle. It is easily the best mansion I have ever seen. The stone work & the intricately carved wooden features are amazing. Even if you are not a national trust member it is well worth the admission fee, what a great day out.
