Cairngorm Mountain
Whether riding the funicular, walking, skiing, or climbing, you have a range of options for exploring Cairngorm Mountain. One of the UK's highest mountains, it offers commanding views of the Strathspey region and the town of Aviemore from its 1,245 m (4,084 ft) peak. The funicular railway provides the least strenuous means of achieving the vista. If you're up for a physical challenge, take one of the hiking trails to the peak. The circuit of the cliff tops is particularly well regarded for its views of the Northern Corries in the Cairngorm range. If you visit in winter, the mountain offers one of the best options for skiing in the UK. The infrastructure includes more than a dozen lifts and about three dozen named runs. Whichever time of year you're traveling here, check the weather, because high winds can shut down the facilities and make outdoor activities treacherous. Make Cairngorm Mountain part of your personalized Aviemore itinerary using our Aviemore trip planner.

We had a great day skiing here on the 31st. Only the beginner slope was open so it was busy but was still great fun. The magic carpet is a fab addition and runs really well. A massive shout out to...

Go prepared. Midge spray/net. Walking boots. Drink. And clothes for all weather. After you've done that you'll find some amazing views after enjoying the steep walk up. From the cairngorm Cafe the walk goes up the "windy ridge". There is a rocky path all the way so no need for maps or GPS really. All the way to the top isn't far but it is steep walk. Near the top there is a ski station then take the walk straight up to the top. Coming down is easier but think of your knees! We had clear weather then cloud above then rain so plan for it all. If there is wind it will come in quick but pass too.
