Asahikawa — 2 nights

Perched on the confluence of four rivers and surrounded by green hills, Asahikawa combines a modern city experience with the pristine nature nearby.
Kick off your visit on the 11th (Sun): examine the collection at Otokoyama Sakezukuri Museum and then don't miss a visit to Asahikawa Heiwa Street Shopping Park.

Chitose to Asahikawa is an approximately 2.5-hour train ride. You can also drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Chitose in December, expect nights in Asahikawa to be a bit warmer, around -5°C, while days are a bit cooler, around -2°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Tue) so you can drive to Teshikaga-cho.

Teshikaga-cho — 2 nights

A small town amid big scenery, Teshikaga-cho sits in a national park.
On the 13th (Tue), test the waters at a local thermal spa, contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Mashu, then take in panoramic vistas at Lake Mashu 3rd Observatory, and finally enjoy breathtaking views from Lake Mashu First Observatory. Here are some ideas for day two: take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Io, explore the activities along Lake Kussharo, get outside with Wakoto Natural Trail, then enjoy breathtaking views from Bihorotoge Lookout, and finally make a trip to Michi-no-Eki Gurutto Panorama Bihorotoge.

Traveling by car from Asahikawa to Teshikaga-cho takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of bus and taxi. In December, plan for daily highs up to 0°C, and evening lows to -5°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 15th (Thu) early enough to go by car to Furano.

Situated in the center of the island, Furano has become known for its idyllic rural landscape, and the drastic changes it experiences as seasons shift.
Start off your visit on the 15th (Thu): make a trip to Popuri no Sato Herb Garden, then don't miss a visit to Ningle Terrace, then head outdoors with Furano Ski Resort, and finally look for gifts at Furano Marche.

Drive from Teshikaga-cho to Furano in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and bus; or do a combination of taxi and bus. In December, daily temperatures in Furano can reach -1°C, while at night they dip to -8°C. You will have some time to spend on the 16th (Fri) before leaving for Noboribetsu.

A modern, bustling city known for its beer brewery, Sapporo attracts millions of visitors with its Snow Festival, during which elaborate ice and snow sculptures are exhibited all over town.
