Uzès is a small town and a commune in the Gard department in southern France.It lies about 25km north-northeast of Nîmes.HistoryOriginally Ucetia or Eutica in Latin, Uzès was a small Gallo-Roman oppidum, or administrative settlement. Visit Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Cenaret and Chateau de Grignan for their historical value. Take a break from the city and head to Les Bateliers des Gorges du Tarn and Aven Armand. Venture out of the city with trips to Sites Archeologiques de Vaison la Romaine (in Vaison-la-Romaine), Saint-Bauzille-de-Putois (Kayaking & Canoeing & La Grotte des Demoiselles) and Grotte de Clamouse (in Saint-Jean-de-Fos).
