Old Forge is a hamlet (and census-designated place) on New York State Route 28 in the town of Webb in Herkimer County, New York. Start off your visit on the 10th (Thu): make a splash at Enchanted Forest Water Safari, look for gifts at Old Forge Hardware, stroll through McCauley Mountain, then indulge your thirst for a good beer at Fulton Chain Craft Brewery, and finally take in the awesome beauty at Bald Mountain.

You can drive from Lake Placid to Old Forge in 2.5 hours. Plan for somewhat warmer nights when traveling from Lake Placid in August since evenings lows in Old Forge dip to 58°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 10th (Thu) early enough to go by car to Lake George.

A playground for America’s wealthy families, Lake George was nicknamed "Queen of the American Lakes." While these families often stayed in private country houses, a tourism industry built up around them in the early 20th century facilitated by two YMCAs.
Kick off your visit on the 11th (Fri): get great views at Mt. Defiance, take in the dramatic scenery at Shelving Rock Falls, then see what you can catch with a fishing tour, and finally tee off at Gooney Golf.
