The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Your day by day itinerary now includes Nintendo Original Building. Visiting Kyoto Round Trip Trail, Kitayama Course East Route and Mt. Kurama will get you outdoors. Do some cultural sightseeing at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Kyoto Museum of Crafts and Design. Change things up with these side-trips from Kyoto: Yasaka Shrine (in Kamogawa), Otsu (Tokai Jiyuhodo & Aqua Biwa) and Miho Museum (in Koka). Getting from Kyoto to Osaka by train takes about an hour. Other options: drive; or take a bus. In June, daytime highs in Osaka are 32°C, while nighttime lows are 22°C. You'll have a few hours on the 12th (Mon) to wrap things up before traveling to Nara.
