The cultural, economic, and political center of the country, Vienna has developed from its early Celtic and Roman roots into a medieval and Baroque city, with an old town that was designated a World Heritage Site in 2001.

Explore hidden gems such as Rathausplatz and Maria Theresia Denkmal. Change things up with these side-trips from Vienna: Krems an der Donau (Kunsthalle Krems, Katholic Pfarrkirche Hl. Nikolaus, &more), Wachau Valley (in Joching) and Rossatz (Wachauer Nase & Schloss Rossatz). Spend the 4th (Sat) exploring nature at Nationalpark Thayatal.
