Bratislava Region travel guide
The urban, economical, and cultural heartland of the country, Bratislava Region is definitely the place to visit when in Slovakia. At the center is Bratislava, the nation's capital--a city with a long and rich history that seems a lot bigger than it actually is. The city's architecture juxtaposes the old with the new; numerous museums and art venues create an abundance of sightseeing opportunities. A plethora of restaurants and cafes, especially around the pedestrian Old Town area, are a great place to relax and try traditional Slovakian specialties. After dark, head to some of the nightclubs and immerse yourself in the party atmosphere. Outside the city, the countryside varies from lowlands along the Danube to the highlands of the Little Carpathians, and is dotted with many attractions, such as castles, chateaus, and scenic towns and villages. Protected nature reserves are a prime destination for hikers, cyclists, anglers, and all other visitors who enjoy spending time outdoors.
