The spiritual capital of the region, Udine remains a wealthy provincial center with a trove of cultural and artistic treasures.Start off your visit on the 6th (Thu): snap pictures at Devil's Bridge, steep yourself in history at Cividale del Friuli - UNESCO World Heritage Centre, then don't miss a visit to Liberty Square, and finally step into the grandiose world of Udine Castle.

Milan to Udine is an approximately 2.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. Expect a daytime high around 21°C in April, and nighttime lows around 9°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 6th (Thu) to allow time to drive to Trieste.

Trieste is a charming old town with a quiet atmosphere often compared to eastern European cities.Kids will enjoy San Sabba Rice Mill - National Monument and Trieste Gulf. Change things up with a short trip to Castle of Duino in Duino (about 30 minutes away). There's still lots to do: Head underground at The Cave "Grotta Gigante", take in the architecture and atmosphere at Saint Giusto Cathedral, kick back and relax at Beach Barcola, and appreciate the extensive heritage of Little Berlin.

You can drive from Udine to Trieste in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus; or take a train. In April, plan for daily highs up to 20°C, and evening lows to 12°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Sun) early enough to drive back home.
