Grand Port District travel guide
Grand Port District takes its name from Vieux Grand Port, the oldest settlement on the island of Mauritius. After spending some time among the ruins and artifacts left by the early Dutch and French settlers, most tours of Grand Port District continue on to the white, sandy beaches of Blue Bay, aptly named after its deep, clear lagoon. Farther inland, the scenery gives way to indigenous forests sheltering rare and endangered species. Off the district's coast, the small island of Île aux Aigrettes preserves Mauritius' original habitat, thanks to a program of rehabilitation.
