Hartford is the capital of the U.S. state of Connecticut. Family-friendly places like The Mark Twain House & Museum and Misquamicut State Beach will thrill your kids. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Hammonasset Beach State Park and East Beach. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Hartford: Watch Hill (East Beach & Watch Hill Merry-Go-Round), Dunes Park (in Westerly) and Meigs Point Nature Center (in Madison). There's much more to do: look and learn at Mystic Seaport Museum, enjoy the sand and surf at Sasco Beach, admire the masterpieces at Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, and get curious at Connecticut Science Center.

Albany — 9 nights

Albany is the capital of the U.S. state of New York and the seat of Albany County. Relax by the water at Belleayre Beach and Million Dollar Beach. Attractions like New York State Museum and New York State Capitol make great kid-friendly stops. Change things up with these side-trips from Albany: Lake George (Fort William Henry Museum, Prospect Mountain, &more), Frost Valley YMCA (in Claryville) and Mountain Top Arboretum (in Tannersville). There's still lots to do: get engrossed in the history at USS Slater DE-766, admire the striking features of Erastus Corning II Tower, see the interesting displays at National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, and stroll around Washington Park.
