Vienna — 6 nights

The cultural, economic, and political center of the country, Vienna has developed from its early Celtic and Roman roots into a medieval and Baroque city, with an old town that was designated a World Heritage Site in 2001.
Take a break from the city and head to Alpine Joe - Mountain Hiking Guide and Naturpark Mannersdof-Wuste. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Vienna Naschmarkt and Meinl am Graben. Change things up with these side-trips from Vienna: Steinwandklamm (in Muggendorf), Kreuzweg ueber den Kalvarienberg (in Gumpoldskirchen) and Kletterpark Tattendorf (in Tattendorf). Spend the 22nd (Fri) exploring nature at Nationalpark Thayatal. Historically known for the production of salt, Halstatt's fine architecture reflects the small village's salt mining legacy.
Take a break from the city and head to Hallstatt-Dachstein - Salzkammergut Cultural Landscape and Traunsee. Venture out of the city with trips to Edelkastanienwald und Waldlehrpfad (in Unterach am Attersee), Schwarzensee Runde (in Sankt Wolfgang im Salzkammergut) and Traunkirchen (Offentlicher Badeplatz Brauwiese & Pfarrkirche Traunkirchen).
