Alytus — 4 nights

Alytus is a city with municipal rights in southern Lithuania. Your inner history buff will appreciate Sv. Angelu sargu baznycia and Assumption of Blessed Mary Virgin Church. Step off the beaten path and head to Zervynos Ethnographic Village and Simnas Church. When in Alytus, make a side trip to see Merkine Mound in Merkine, approximately Merkine away. There's still lots to do: take in the views from White Rose Bridge, walk around Alytaus Miesto Parkas, see the interesting displays at Alytus Museum, and don't miss a visit to Alytus Town Hall Square.

Stockholm, Sweden to Alytus is an approximately 8.5-hour combination of flight and car. You can also drive. You'll lose 1 hour traveling from Stockholm to Alytus due to the time zone difference. Expect a daytime high around 24°C in June, and nighttime lows around 11°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 5th (Sun) to allow time for the car ride to Kaunas.

Kaunas — 8 nights

Situated between the Neris and Nemunas rivers, Kaunas is known for its old town, which, though smaller than the capital's, is in much better condition.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Ninth Fort and Church of St. Michael the Archangel. Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul and Pazaislis Monastery will appeal to history buffs. Next up on the itinerary: steep yourself in history at Sugihara House, brush up on your military savvy at Atomic KGB Bunker, pause for some serene contemplation at St. Gertrude's Church (Gertrudos baznycia), and see the interesting displays at National M. K. Ciurlionis Art Museum.
