In many ways the most modern of Italian cities, Milan is a busy, elegant metropolis with an impressive list of grand palaces, fine churches, and important museums.
Venture out of the city with trips to Villa Monastero (in Varenna), Aero Club Monte Cornizzolo (in Suello) and I Giardini di Villa Melzi (in Bellagio). Next up on the itinerary: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Duomo di Milano, explore the historical opulence of Castello Sforzesco, admire the natural beauty at Villa Carlotta, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Basilica San Lorenzo Maggiore.

Trieste is a charming old town with a quiet atmosphere often compared to eastern European cities.
Take a break from Trieste with a short trip to Fusine Lakes in Tarvisio, about 1h 50 min away.
