The cultural, economic, and political center of the country, Vienna has developed from its early Celtic and Roman roots into a medieval and Baroque city, with an old town that was designated a World Heritage Site in 2001.
Kids will appreciate attractions like Augustinerkirche and Haus des Meeres - Aqua Terra Zoo. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Burgruine Duernstein and Katholic Pfarrkirche Hl. Nikolaus. Change things up with a short trip to Melk Abbey in Melk (about 1h 15 min away). There's lots more to do: get engrossed in the history at Kaiserliche Schatzkammer Wien, explore the world behind art at Leopold Museum, admire the striking features of State Hall of the Austrian National Library, and walk around Stadtpark.

Luxembourg City, Luxembourg to Vienna is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. When traveling from Luxembourg City in July, plan for somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Vienna: temperatures range from 32°C by day to 19°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 19th (Tue) to allow time to drive to Graz.

Hallstatt — 2 nights

Historically known for the production of salt, Halstatt's fine architecture reflects the small village's salt mining legacy.
On the 21st (Thu), appreciate the extensive heritage of Old Town, discover the riches below the earth's surface at Salzwelten Hallstatt, then take in panoramic vistas at Hallstatt Skywalk "Welterbeblick", and finally stroll the grounds of Beinhaus, Karner, Ossuary. Keep things going the next day: get great views at 5 Fingers, then take in the awesome beauty at Hallstatt-Dachstein - Salzkammergut Cultural Landscape, and then don't miss a visit to Central Square Marktplatz.

Despite its small size, Zell am See is a well-visited tourist destination known mostly as a ski resort town, and it serves as an important transportation hub for the region.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Sigmund-Thun-Klamm and Helicopter Tours. Attractions like Gipfelwelt 3000 and Tauern Spa make great kid-friendly stops. Change things up with these side-trips from Zell am See: Kitzsteinhorn (in Kaprun), Krimml Falls (Krimmler Wasserfalle) (in Krimml) and Grossglockner High Alpine Road (in Heiligenblut).
