Kaunas, Lithuania — 1 day

Situated between the Neris and Nemunas rivers, Kaunas is known for its old town, which, though smaller than the capital's, is in much better condition.
On the 12th (Fri), steep yourself in history at Ninth Fort, contemplate the long history of Kaunas Town Hall, visit Old Town, then explore the historical opulence of Kaunas Castle, and finally see the interesting displays at National M. K. Ciurlionis Art Museum.

The capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, boasts an impressive medieval quarter--one of the continent's largest and a World Heritage Site with almost 2,000 historical buildings.
Take a break from Vilnius with a short trip to Trakai Island Castle Museum in Trakai, about 36 minutes away. There's much more to do: take a stroll through Vilnius Old Town, see the interesting displays at KGB Museum (Genocido Auku Muziejus), visit Uzupis, and get the lay of the land with Walking tours.

Along the Dalmation Coast, the city of Dubrovnik has become famous for its pedestrian-only Old Town surrounded by fortress walls, and its historical heft has earned it World Heritage Site status.
Step out of Dubrovnik with an excursion to Cavtat Old Town in Cavtat--about 34 minutes away. There's much more to do: step off the mainland to explore Lokrum Island, awaken your taste buds at some of the top wineries in the area, stroll through Zarkovica Animal Shelter, and take in the waterfront activity at City Harbor.
