Isla de Vieques — 3 nights

Isla Nena

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Step off the beaten path and head to Playa Pata Prieta and Black Sand Beach. You'll get in some beach time at Playa Media Luna and Playa La Chiva. There's lots more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Navio, stroll through Playa Caracas, take a leisurely stroll along Malecon, and trot along with a tour on horseback.

New York City, USA to Isla de Vieques is an approximately 8-hour flight. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time to Atlantic Standard Time, which is usually a 1 hour difference. Traveling from New York City in March, expect Isla de Vieques to be warmer, temps between 84°F and 72°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 20th (Mon) so you can catch the flight to Culebra.

Little Island

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
On the 21st (Tue), kick back and relax at Playa Carlos Rosario and then look for all kinds of wild species at Wildlife Areas. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 22nd (Wed): enjoy the sea views from Culebrita Lighthouse, then head off the coast to Culebrita, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Playa Zoni.

Getting from Isla de Vieques to Culebra by flight takes about 3.5 hours. Other options: ride a ferry. In March, daily temperatures in Culebra can reach 84°F, while at night they dip to 73°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 22nd (Wed) early enough to catch the flight to Fajardo.

Fajardo — 2 nights

Fajardo is a small city and municipality in Puerto Rico (U.S.) located in the east region of the island, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, north of Ceiba and east of Luquillo. On the 23rd (Thu), examine the collection at El Yunque National Forest, kick your exploration up a notch at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, and then stroll through Playa Luquillo. On the 24th (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: head off the coast to Isla Palominos and then see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour.

Rincon — 2 nights

Corner

A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.
Kick off your visit on the 25th (Sat): relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, then kick back and relax at Sandy Beach, and then enjoy the sea views from Faro de Punta Higuera. On the next day, discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Crashboat, and then make a trip to Monumento al Cacique Mabodamaca.

Traveling by flight from Fajardo to Rincon takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of shuttle and car. Plan for a bit warmer nights when traveling from Fajardo in March since evenings lows in Rincon dip to 78°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 26th (Sun) so you can catch the flight back home.
