El Yunque National Forest — 1 night

Start off your visit on the 3rd (Fri): take in panoramic vistas at Yokahu Observation Tower and then take in the dramatic scenery at Cascada La Mina (La Mina Falls). For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.

Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.

A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.
You'll get in some beach time at Playa Crashboat and Domes Beach. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Playa Sucia and Playa Buye. Change things up with a short trip to Faro Los Morrillos in Cabo Rojo (about 1h 25 min away).
