Lake George — 5 nights

Queen of the American Lakes
A playground for America’s wealthy families, Lake George was nicknamed "Queen of the American Lakes." While these families often stayed in private country houses, a tourism industry built up around them in the early 20th century facilitated by two YMCAs.You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Magic Forest and Shelving Rock Falls. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Ulysses S. Grant Cottage National Historic Landmark and Central Park Rose Garden. Get out of town with these interesting Lake George side-trips: Manchester (The American Museum of Fly Fishing, North Meadow Farm, &more) and Saratoga Springs History Museum (in Saratoga Springs). And it doesn't end there: see what you can catch with Bolton Boat Tours and Water Sports on Lake George, get outside with Equinox Balloons, get engrossed in the history at Lake George Historical Association and Museum, and identify plant and animal life at Veterans Memorial Park.
