World Heritage Kinderdijk
Almost everyone associates the Netherlands with windmills--at World Heritage Kinderdijk, you can see a channel lined with 19 of them dating back to 1740. Used for the last time during the World War II, these structures used hydraulics to provide drainage, protecting the area from floods. Although advanced technology is replacing windmills today, you can still admire the beauty of theses majestic structures. Put World Heritage Kinderdijk at the forefront of your travel plans using our Kinderdijk trip planner.

Just an hour outside Amsterdam is this gem. Classic Dutch windmills set in countryside. Where we went was a 19km walking/bike trail (easy to rent bikes) so you can go slow and enjoy the serenity...

This was a really pretty typically Dutch location. It was easy to reach by Ferry from Rotterdam. there are cafes & a shop.. A big car park and the lanes are car free to cycle on.

Really nice famous sight in the Netherlands which is worth seeing! However, keep in mind that transportation is a bit of a challenge as you should make a few changes if you come by public transport. Also, the ticket is around 16 euros and includes boat, windmill entrance and museum buildings. There isn't a separate ticket just for the windmills or just for the boat. If you want to save some money bring your own food as there aren't any shops close to the sights and just one cafe. Overall, it is a really nice sight. Keep in mind the strong wind!

We bought the all inclusive tickets and parked at the designated area 15’ away - very pricey BUT the ticket also covers the fee for a bike rental which makes the whole experience complete! Cycling along the water channels is really awesome! The visit of the 2 windmills from inside is well worth the visit! We took the panorama boat but the view was really beautiful!
