Challenge the contrasts between sanity and insanity, visitors and inmates, and participants and observers at Museum Van de Geest, the national museum of psychiatry. Established in 2005 in an old psychiatric hospital, the museum houses artifacts from seven psychiatric institutions. Items displayed include the belongings of famous patients, treatment methods, and tools. Interactive displays include the ability to listen to patients' oral stories using a stethoscope--putting the visitor in the shoes of doctor or observer. • I have never visited the museum as my steps always ended at the cafe. I just love the cakes and coffee served. while my son picks on a salad or sandwich. This place has been a must for me to visit....  more

  • Makes total sense why they've received the top museum award. The personification in the voice of the audio guide to the thought provoking walkthrough was like a performance rather than a museum. You can see the depth to which the curators went to walk us through how a kid walks through to the school on their first day. The rooms are divided into different theme, mind, mental help , old age/ disability, asylum, depression, cultural, self reflection etc. So yes they had everything.
  • Absolutely worth to visit. It's a open mind museum.
