Housed in three pavilions, each designed by a different architect, Groninger Museum displays modern and contemporary art. The museum opened in 1874, but the current construction wasn't completed until 1994. Take in the distinct pavilions, a silver cylindrical building, a yellow tower, and a blue deconstructivist space. These structures merge seamlessly into one museum located on the canal. Explore the museum to see local, national, and international works of art. If you'd like a more in-depth understanding of the exhibits, choose from one of the several tours offered. See Groninger Museum and all Groningen has to offer by arranging your trip with our Groningen vacation planner.

  • We went to Groningen for the Versace collection! This was worth it to travel to Groningen! Nice restaurant also, the other collection wasn't worth it!

  • It was nice museum. Every time they have a different exhibition i believe but it was worth it. Also it was really nice that students of RUG can get in for free

  • The building itself is one of the most beautiful places I've seen. The inside design is just amazing, poppy, relevant. There are many different exhibitions... some are super interesting sone less, but it's a matter of taste so you'll find something interesting for you, for sure!
  • Colourful playful building built into the canal, right across the Groninger Train Station. It’s a treat to just look at and then walk on into the shopping streets. Of course the exhibitions are also nice. The water around the canals was a bit dirty though. I saw a bike and a lot of algae.
