Leiden Square (Leidseplein)
Choose your spot among hundreds of bars and clubs at Leiden Square (Leidseplein), one of the city's famous nightlife hubs. The square has trams, boutiques, and a vibrant atmosphere filled with street performers. Have a coffee in the open air while people-watching and breathing in the youthful vibe of the site, or grab a pint in a lively Irish bar. Neon lights and raw bass are guaranteed at the square. You can also have a sightseeing spree and view architectural marvels such as the Stadsschouwburg theater, a Neo-Renaissance structure that hosts the Dutch National Ballet. PutLeiden Square (Leidseplein) into our Amsterdam trip itinerary builder site and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

Nice square with a lot of restaurants and bars. Has more to do than dam square in my opinion, and not as crowded. The square was built In 1660, and its name was taken from the gate which stood there until 1862 and was the gate from which people arrived from thet city of Leiden. Interestingly, The original reason for the construction of the square was to be a parking place for the carriages of those who arrived to the city
