Contained within the royal palace, Royal Armory represents the country's oldest museum and houses a vast collection of objects and artifacts from Swedish military and royalty history. King Gustavus Adolphus founded the museum in 1628 to preserve his costumes from a campaign in Poland. Since then, thousands of items have been added to this impressive collection. You'll experience Swedish history through the remnants of the country’s past, including belongings of kings and queens dating back to the 15th century. The site houses 17th-century coaches, robes from royal weddings, and blood-stained attire from historic battles, such as the tunic that Gustav II Adolph was wearing when he was killed. Some amazing exhibits that are honestly a surprise to see preserved at all. The information is easily understandable in English and tells the story of the Swedish monarchy over 500 years.

Super interesting and well curated museum. Plus it’s free! We followed the guided tour in English, which was wonderful. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history behind the items and added so much context to the exhibitions which made it all the more enjoyable. Would definitely recommend you to take the tour if you get a chance to go.

A great and FREE museum that highlights the attire and artifacts of Swedish royalty through the ages. Along with thoughtful displays in Swedish and English, you get a high quality overview of the country itself. Along with royal carriages and sleds you get a great view on royal life.
