Yacimientos de la Sierra de Atapuerca
Yacimientos de la Sierra de Atapuerca offers a glimpse at millenia of human history: from early humans through the Bronze Age, and on up to modern man. Its excavation took some 12 years, from 1978 to 1990, and 10 years later UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site. Studies of human evolution now obligatorily refer to this dig. An impressive site known as the Bone Pit contains more than 5,500 human bones. Consider visiting the museum in the city proper and buying a joint ticket, which includes the bus to this location. Make Yacimientos de la Sierra de Atapuerca a centerpiece of your Burgos vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Burgos online tour itinerary builder.

It was beautiful and easy to imagine a time when it was intact before the mines. An amazing archaeological find of human remains has turned dating humans in Europe on its head since the 1990s.

Not much to see. Waste of time if you are not fluent in Spanish. A guide that talks forever (1 1/2 hours!!!!!!) in very rapid spanish. And people have to stand still in the meantime. Why not audioguides in English or at least a handout? Would be a better idea with an introductory video and a much shorter trip
