Paseo del Espolon, Burgos

Lined with trees and bracketed on either side by the Arlanzon River and the classical Spanish architecture of Burgos, Paseo del Espolon is one of Castile’s most beautiful promenades. Admire the traditional Spanish buildings, built upon the site of the old city wall, as you stroll through the heart of the historic town. Visit the Gate of St. Mary, which is one of the few remaining large gates and leads to the large cathedral in Burgos’ historic center. Relax in front of one of the street’s many ponds and fountains, or people-watch with a coffee at a cafe along the way. Be sure to keep an eye out for the intricate statues of former Spanish kings scattered around the avenue.
