  • I simply noticed it's been awhile since anyone reviewed this experience. To update, the convent is still holding up to its famous reputation for serving tasty, candied almonds through a 'door'. Yes...

  • Convent of the Poor Clares of San Diego In front of the convent, we find the sculpture dedicated to the archbishop of Toledo Carrillo de Acuña (15th century) Important from the political and ecclesiastical point of view, he was the one who married the Catholic Monarchs. In Alcalá de Henares, he founded the nearby Franciscan monastery of Santa María de Jesús, located where the Prince's barracks, now the Central University Library, were later built. San Diego de Alcalá lived and died in this monastery. But this convent is especially famous for the production and sale of the famous caramelized almonds. Attested in Alcalá de Henares at least since the 16th century, the procedure to acquire them, through the closure lathe, is as appetizing as the caramelized almonds themselves.
  • They sell several products, especially candied almonds, through a lathe by ringing a bell, they serve you kindly as always.
