The Colegio Mayor de San Ildefonso is a building located in Alcalá de Henares, Spain. It was declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 1914.It was built by Cardinal Cisneros who commissioned architect Pedro de Gumiel to design. The foundation stone was laid in 1499, the Saint Ildefonsus` Chapel was completed in 1510; in 1516 began construction of the Paraninfo and in 1537 Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón designed the main façade.Although most of the work had been carried out by 1617 when Juan Gómez de Mora redesigned the courtyard, the construction was not finished until the second half of the 17th century.

This college was founded by Cardinal Cisneros in 1499. It has one of the most important facades of the Renaissance period. The Cervantes Prize of literature is given in this building every year.

College of San Ildefonso University of Alcalá de Henares, located in the Plaza de San Diego The Antigua Complutum became the seat of the university founded by Cardinal Cisneros in the year 1499. This monumental façade corresponds to the Colegio Mayor de San Ildefonso center of the University of Alcalá de Henares The façade was made by Rodrigo Gil de Hontañon. His works began in the year 1537 and ended in 1553.

Beautiful building, very well preserved that you can visit for free the garden part below. The upper one can also be visited but you have to pay an entrance fee. It has a lovely restaurant in beautiful gardens.
