Rising above the historical city center, Trenciansky Hrad rests on foundations dating back to the Bronze Age. Visit the castle, built upon a rocky hill, and explore its series of stone fortifications that themselves date back to the 11th century. Admire its sturdy construction, featuring bulky defensive towers topped by pointed roofs and surrounded by thick stone walls. Inside the castle, visit the local museum, where you can gain more in-depth knowledge about the history of the castle, town, and region itself through displays featuring arms, armor, household items, paintings, and other remnants of the castle's time as a noble residence. • Beautiful historical castle set in a beautiful town. Well worth a day trip to experience both castle and town. Great photo opportunities. No need for a tour guide as many signs were multilingual.

  • It was a fun half day out with the family. We took the tourist train to the top entrance then walked down so there wasn't too much walking uphill but lots of stairs within the castle. It was worth it when you were then rewarded with the stunning views.
  • Another castle in Slovakia. Why is this one different? Well first of all, it's probably the most available one from all of them (not counting Bratislava), get from train, 20 mins through city, and you are there. The castle itself is renovated and you can visit everything outside. The inside it's only available with a guide, which can be bothersome for non-slovak speakers, and thus you would either missed the explanation, or be forced to adapt your tempo to the guide. You can visit tower as it's the part of non-guide (smaller) ticket. The view from here is pretty nice, you see all the hills around and also nearly whole Trenčín. Overall the quality/view/price/availability/time is the best of all the castles I have ever been to.
