  • This is the main location of Murom's city museum and contains two historical exhibitions as well as a rotating art gallery. The first exhibition explores the history of Murom's merchant class and how they lived, while the second covers Murom's ancient and medieval history. The second exhibition includes a fantastic display of icons. The temporary art exhibitions are typically interesting, and the gift shop by the entrance (no ticket needed) is a good place for souvenirs. Note that all of the information in the museum is in Russian only, but I believe it is still worth seeing for foreign visitors.
  • Compared to an art gallery, if it is appropriate to compare them at all, there was less interest. The first hall with household items of non-poor citizens of the past pleases with a lot of small, but very interesting gizmos for close examination. The second hall with icons and church utensils will please, in my opinion, only specialists, or those who are well versed in icon painting. I am not strong in this matter, and therefore just looked at the icons. In the third hall there was an exhibition of stuffed animals (January 2022) - I did not go to it. Entrance to each of the halls costs 100 rubles. I can recommend visiting the first hall and reading the information in the hall on the second floor.
