Create an itinerary including Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center
Understand the complex history of Russian Jewry by looking into personal testimonies, archival video footage, and interactive high-tech displays at Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center. The museum opened in 2012 in the restored Bakhmetevsky Bus Garage, a world-famous Constructivist masterpiece. Architects Melnikov and Shukhov designed the building in 1926. Notice how the interior lighting resembles slanted rays of sunshine. The exhibits, divided chronologically in 12 galleries, evoke the lives of Russian Jews since the late 19th century, with special emphasis on the fate of Soviet Jews and the role of Jewish soldiers during World War II. The museum also features a shop, a lecture hall, and a cafe. • Beautifully restored monument of Soviet avant-garde architecture. Very modern, tolerant, and unobtrusive.

  • My wife and myself are frequent goers. Usually, for Museum's exhibitions - they are brilliantly thought of, always reaching the aim and giving the right impression. No matter, how sad the emotions...

  • The museum itself is well-organized seeing that there are few exhibitions and master classes in the kids center. Security procedures are tough, so if you are a visitor, you will be checked numerous times.
  • Not so easy to find, but nice museum. Record the Jewish history in Russia and to memorize the history. Also talks about the current situation of the Jewish in Russia. Atmosphere is great and the museum is informative. Souvenir is a little bit expensive.
