Peasant Fortified Church at Prejmer
The Prejmer fortified church is a Lutheran fortified church in Prejmer, Brașov County, in the Transylvania region of Romania and the ethnographic area of the Burzenland. The church was founded by the Germanic Teutonic Knights, and then was eventually taken over by the Transylvanian Saxon community. Initially Roman Catholic, it became Lutheran following the Reformation. Together with the surrounding village, the church forms part of the villages with fortified churches in Transylvania UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wonderful UNESCO protected citadel. Very interesting to read the story and visit the site. When you see the old school, take the stairs to the right and climb until the end to reach the internal part of the wall. It is not signed anywhere so seems no one knows about it. Really interesting seeing the internal part of the fortress

My personal favorite fortified church in Transylvania. Very impressive insights of medieval architecture. The story of the German community protecting themselves against Ottoman invaders is interesting but sensing it within the walls is a unique experience. Absolutely recommended!
