Vidraru Dam is a dam in Romania. It was completed in 1966 on the Argeș River and creates Lake Vidraru. The arch dam was built with the primary purpose to produce hydroelectricity. The dam's height is 166 metres, the arch length 305 meters and it can store 465 million cubic metres of water. The reservoir has a total shoreline (perimeter) length of 28 km.

The Vidraru Dam , the road (DN7C - Transfagarasan mountain road) is crossing the dam , parking is a bit tricky very few spots where you can stop safely, unfortunately wild bears are roaming the area..... more

The dam is worth a quick 10 minute stop on the Transfagarasan road. There are a couple of small parking areas at each end of the dam as you approach it and there are footpaths either side to peer...

Absolutely amazing place. The dam is really a masterpiece of modern construction and it's size is astonishing. Enjoyed this place very much. You can even take a boat on the Vidraru Lake near the dam.

Dam and the lake is beautiful and very impressive. It is free to walk around and visit it because it is sitting right on the highway. Very crowded and might be traffic jams nearby. Hard to find parking. Too bad they don’t let people upstairs the tower for super view of the lake. There is security guard watching the dam.
